Position Summary

92Y’s Art Center welcomes 300 children and teens each semester in our afterschool and weekend classes. The Art Center hires a Teaching Assistant for every children or teen class with 7 or more students enrolled. Teaching Assistants’ main responsibilities are to help the lead Teaching Artists foster a creative learning environment by being an extra set of eyes and hands in the classroom. The ideal Teaching Assistant candidate is someone who is interested in working with children/teens ages 5 – 17 in a creative classroom setting, a background in art is required. The Art Center offers a wide variety of classes such as: drawing & painting, ceramics, jewelry making, Lego Robotics, photography, and more!

Essential Functions

  • Assist the lead Teacher to foster a creative and safe learning environment
  • Monitor students' work and behavior, and provide support where necessary
  • The ideal Teaching Assistant candidate can commit to the full semester of weekly classes (click here for: Kids Calender)
  • Afterschool and Weekend children/teen classes meet weekly (during the week afterschool classes typically meet from 4 – 5:30 pm)
  • Payrate is $17/hr; TA’s and lead teachers are paid for class time plus 15 minutes of prep and 15 minutes of clean up per class.
  • Job Perk: one free 92Y Art Center class per semester for all Teaching Assistants.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in art education, art history or a visual arts-related discipline
  • Commit to full semester of weekly classes (you can view the Kids Calendar here)
  • Payrate is $17/hr; TA’s and lead teachers are paid for class time plus 15 minutes of prep and 15 minutes of clean up per class.
