Position Summary

Working in a busy department of creative designers and technologists, reporting to the Managing Director, Strategic Marketing, the position requires an ability to work quickly and efficiently on a broad range of design projects as well as supervise, evaluate and motivate the Creative Services department of a $65 million plus, world-renowned cultural and community center serving over 300,000 patrons annually.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise the Art Director, a staff of designers, and a print production manager
  • Supervision of outside vendors such as service bureaus, printers, illustrators, photographers and freelance designers
  • Manage the day-to-day of the department including developing and monitoring budgets and workflow
  • Hire, train, motivate and evaluate staff, reporting results and recommendations
  • Partner with stakeholders across the organization to develop branding and marketing needs
  • Supervise the planning, development and production of major projects including, print, digital, video, and other program collateral material
  • Take a lead role in the creation of new concepts, designs, and marketing campaigns
  • Develop, maintain and enforce 92Y brand strategy, including the overall brand and any sub-brands
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Eight years minimum experience in fast-paced graphics environment, including significant experience with print and digital marketing and communications, as well as video
  • Highly creative design and management skills to produce within tight budgets and multiple, concurrent and frequent deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills in a team environment
  • Ability to make decisions and have good judgment and diplomacy
  • Superior design ability and an excellent portfolio demonstrating these skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, excellent organizational, trafficking, project management, and communication skills
  • Must have extensive knowledge of InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator in Mac environment. Flash and Dreamweaver experience a plus.
