Job Summary

92NY School Engagement in the Arts is one of New York City’s largest community arts education providers, creating dynamic programs, performances and talks for thousands of K-12 students and their teachers each year across the boroughs.

We are currently seeking applications for Teaching Artists for our Summer 2024 Young Writers Workshop. 92NY’s Young Writers Workshop gathers talented teen writers from all over the country for warm, supportive workshops in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry with some of NYC’s best creative writing teachers. This summer, the Young Writers’ Workshop will put high-school students, ages 15-18, at the center of the creative process. Led by experienced instructors who are also established authors, students will explore the originality of their own voices through a three-week, multi-genre intensive that combines close reading, guided exercises and creative problem-solving in a nurturing, inspiring environment.

Each cohort of students will be led by one teaching artist and one teaching artist’s assistant. Teaching Artists will be responsible for developing all lessons for their respective cohorts as well as leading all morning and afternoon sessions in their respective week.

The Workshop will meet for three weeks in July and focus on one genre per week:

Poetry: July 8–12

Fiction: July 15–29

Creative Nonfiction: July 22–25

In the morning session (10 am–12 pm), two groups of 10-15 students read and discuss excerpts of celebrated works of literature then participate in writing exercises connected to their reading.
