The development team is a dynamic group of highly skilled, goal-focused individuals who, alongside program partners, continue to achieve fundraising success by finding creative and unique ways to inspire support across the organization. At this momentous time in 92NY’s history, the scope and volume of the Development Department’s work continues to expand exponentially, making it imperative to continue growing the team’s staff resources.

 

Position Summary

The Associate Director, Prospect Research is responsible for staying abreast of prospecting opportunities and regular areas of prime prospect research in a pro-active manner. Reporting to the Director, Development Operations and Research, and under the guidance and direction of the Director of Prospect Research, this position conducts comprehensive and proactive prospect research with the goal of identifying new major giving and foundation prospects.

Job Responsibilities Include

·       Compile confidential research profiles producing detailed biographical and financial reports using a variety of research resources.

·       Analyze qualitative and quantitative data, including business interests, giving history, wealth, relationships, and philanthropic tendencies to assess prospects’ capacity and correlate donor interests to 92NY funding

        opportunities and priorities.

·       Participate in prospect review process and meetings; rate and prioritize donors and prospects in terms of inclination and capacity in order to guide departmental fundraising efforts and to increase productivity;

        propose cultivation and solicitation strategies in concert with development colleagues.

·       Research profiles on donors making new gifts to 92NY and share with appropriate development staff.

·       Regularly review internal 92NY attendee lists and external lists of peer organizations for potential mid-level and major giving prospects.

·       Conduct research on Foundations.

·       Support the professional development of the Development Associate, Prospect Research and assist with the oversight of the Development departments usage of research tools.

·       Work closely with 92NY staff to become familiar with the wide array of programs and fundraising opportunities available.

·       Proactively manage research workflow, including tracking and ensuring timely completion of requests.

·       Help to identify and evaluate new research tools and techniques to keep up to date with trends and developments in the research industry.

·       Provide oversight of the Tessitura database process for monitoring and tracking prospects.

·       Utilize the functionality in the Tessitura database, including reports and utilities and list manager, to build and analyze prospect lists for proactive and post-event research opportunities.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

·       Bachelor’s degree required.

·       Minimum of 2 years experience in prospect research, development, library research or information related field.

·       Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion.

·       Knowledge of various prospect research and wealth screening platforms such as Iwave, Lexis-Nexis, Relationship Science (RelSci), Foundation Directory Online and GuideStar. 

·       Strong computer and technical skills and demonstrated background in internet-based research.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Experience with relational databases and the ability to download and export information between systems.

·       Experience with Tessitura or another CRM such as Raiser’s Edge.

·       Knowledge of the range of resources available to prospect researchers and the ability to apply those resources in an organized and purposeful manner.

·       Understanding of local, regional, and national philanthropic, business, and foundation communities.

·       Ability to analyze and synthesize data from a wide variety of sources, and present the resulting information in a clear, concise, and well written summary.

·       Proficiency in internet research and data extraction, including fundraising databases and online services.

·       Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with attention to detail and follow through. 

·       Flexible work attitude and the ability to adjust to changing priorities and deadlines.

·       Ability to work in a team environment and independently. 

·       Understanding of major gift fundraising fundamentals. 

Work Environment & Requirements

40 hours/ week; Monday to Friday, 9 am – 6 pm.

 

This position is approved to utilize a hybrid working model which is subject to change in the future.

Compensation Range

$60,000-70,000

 

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held.
