Job Summary

The Dance Center Assistant provides administrative support to the Dance Department, ensuring the efficient operation of the Harkness Dance Center, the School of Dance and Dance Education Laboratory. The position requires a forward-facing employee with excellent customer service, administrative, and organizational skill sets.  The successful candidate will be excited to work on a daily basis to help support Artists in Residence, Adult and Children’s School of Dance Faculty members, Dance Movement Therapy and Dance Education Laboratory patrons and faculty members, families and patrons of all ages. The position will require a well-honed ability to multitask between administrative responsibilities and patron relations and the Harkness Dance Center seeks a candidate with a deep knowledge of dance to fill this role.

Job Responsibilities Include

  • Interact and engage with patrons, faculty and students, including responding positively and efficiently to questions or concerns raised via phone/email/in-person and providing effective pragmatic solutions.
  • Create and update schedules and rosters for School of Dance classes, track registrations, coordinate follow up registrations and monitor and follow up on missed class attendance.
  • Serve as liaison to all 92NY patrons visiting the Dance Center.
  • Prepare and submit room set up requests and coordinate with the facilities department to ensure that rooms are properly set up, in a timely manner, with all the required equipment and materials for all dance center programs.
  • Organize, submit and update 92NY space requests for all dance center programming.
  • In conjunction with the Customer Care department and Assist Program Manager of the School, draft for review, communications to keep current and potentially enrolled families up to date on current and future programs and activities.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of Dance Movement Therapy workshops and courses, including technical needs and securing props.
  • Manage office supplies, equipment, and ordering requests with a focus on cost control, while ensuring all equipment and supplies are in working order.  
  • Organize and execute print and photocopy requests and mailings.
  • Perform daily rounds to check studios prior to the start of classes and close the office at the end of day. 
  • May be assigned other tasks and duties reasonably related to their job responsibilities.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • 2+ years’ experience in an administrative setting and in arts education.
  • A demonstrable knowledge of and interest in Dance.
  • Previous front of house or customer facing experience
  • Strong organizational, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) with previous Tessitura experience a plus.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and execute responsibilities in the face of conflicting priorities or unexpected situations.

Work Environment & Requirements

Onsite: Tuesday-Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 pm, Friday 10:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m., with a 45-minute unpaid lunch break.

Compensation Range
$40,000-$45,000

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held.
