Job Summary

The Swim Instructor maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and the surrounding areas. This position will teach youth and adults the fundamentals of swimming, and water safety. The Swim Instructor will create a positive atmosphere that promotes swimmer safety and engagement in accordance with 92NY policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities Include

  • Ensures the safety of every individual at 92NY, both in and around the pool as well as the rest of the facility.
  • Maintain readiness to teach at all times by wearing a swimsuit and designated blue instructor shirt and be prepared to enter the water for every lesson.
  • Instructors teaching parent and child classes through level 2 need to be in the water engaging the students. Instructors teaching level 3 and above can instruct from the deck but ready to demonstrate any skill as needed.
  • Proficient with all emergency procedures and promptly responds to emergency situations in accordance with 92NY policies and procedures.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Enforce regulations pertaining to showers, conduct, food and drink.
  • Responsible for following proper substitute procedures and finding adequate coverage for shifts when there is a scheduling conflict; last-minute coverage is instructor’s responsibility.  Written documentation for time off is required 2 weeks in advance.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving for their shift, and during all lessons.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Responsible for keeping the Aquatics leadership team up to date with any changes relating to phone, email and/or mailing address in order to remain informed and updated on changes to work schedules.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Certifications: Red Cross WSI or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate WSI skills in accordance and Red Cross standards prior to employment.

Work Environment & Requirements

Per Diem Compensation Range

$25 - $40/hour

 

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
